The House Has a History. The Sale Needs a Plan.

Practical coordination. Clear choices. Support around the move.

Selling a parent’s home can feel very different from selling your own. There may be decades of memories inside, several relatives involved, and a move that needs to happen before anyone is ready to list.

The first step is not necessarily putting the property on the market. It is understanding the options.

Should the home be sold before or after the move? Selling first may reduce carrying costs or make funds available sooner, but it can add pressure to the moving timeline. Moving first may allow the family to prepare the property without disrupting daily life, but it may mean covering two sets of expenses for a time. The right answer depends on finances, legal authority, personal wishes, and the property itself.

Does the house need repairs? Sometimes a thorough cleaning and selective improvements are enough. Sometimes selling as-is is the more practical option. Before spending money, compare the likely benefits of improvements with their cost and timing.

Who helps coordinate the sale? Through our collaboration with Coastal Connect Realty, families may request a property consultation with Marija Peshevska, a California real estate professional with Coastal Connect Realty, brokered by Real Broker. Marija can discuss pricing, preparation, marketing, and transaction strategy. Real estate representation is optional and requires a separate agreement.

What if the family lives out of state? Home to Care can coordinate agreed local vendor tasks and help establish a communication plan. The homeowner or legally authorized representative remains responsible for decisions and approvals.
